Cheri

Cheri was bought as a foal from the beach donkey people in Weston Super Mare as a companion for a part bred Welsh cob I’d bought to have as a riding horse. He was the most adorable/difficult animal I’d ever met! He was completely wild and kicked me in the leg within the first 24 hours. My thigh was BLACK for a month!! After 3 months, I still couldn’t catch him so eventually launched myself at him, I threw my arms around his neck & held on tight!!

I had attended a donkey management course at the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth. I learnt three very important things: donkeys bond deeply & become very distressed if separated from their companion, donkeys do not show if they are unwell therefore very minor signs are likely to be major problems and, number 3, they LOVE ginger nut biscuits!

Cheri and I would never have made the last 15 years without ginger nut biscuits!

Now, he is still as difficult (cautious) and adorable (charming) as ever. I love him to bits and everybody who meets him falls for those big fluffy ears!!
